Rollerblade Twister 90R Review: Built for All Skaters

The Twister 90R sits in a subtly different category to Rollerblade's recreational range. It's built for all skaters who want to not really have to think about their skates and just focus skating. The price reflects that (a little), but price doesn't mean it's not for beginners. It just means the skate is more specific to you, which actually makes it more beginner friendly, not less.

What It Is

The Rollerblade Twister 90R is a general purpose inline skate. Where the RB80 is built around ease and budget, the Twister 90R is built around control and performance. Stiffer boot, more precise closure, 90mm wheels with a slight rocker built directly into the frame. Designed for skaters who want improvement in every aspect.

Specs at a Glance

How It Performs

The stiffer boot may take a session or two to break in, but once it does the fit is secure in a way that gives you real confidence at speed and on turns. You are not losing energy to flex in the boot.

The 90mm wheels make a genuine difference here. More wheel means better speed maintenance, you cover ground with less effort, and the slight rocker built into the frame adds manoeuvrability without you having to think about it. The result is a skate that feels more balanced and natural than a typical 80mm setup. An 80mm skate can feel a bit hockey-like; the 90R feels more like inline skating is supposed to feel.

On most terrain that means stability through the varied stuff, cracks, kerb drops, uneven tarmac, while still being easy to steer. The proportions just work better for all-round skating, and that pays off the longer you skate in them.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Good option for general skating

Cons

  • Stiffer boot needs a short break-in period
  • Higher price point

Who It's Right For

This is the right skate if you want something that grows with your ability, or something that keeps up. It suits people who skate regularly on mixed surfaces, cover longer distances, and want a boot that feels precise rather than soft.

It's also worth saying: a higher price doesn't mean this isn't for beginners. It means the skate is built more specifically, and that specificity can actually make learning easier, because the skate responds the way it should. If you are just starting out and want something that will last and improve with you, the Twister 90R is a legitimate choice (and probably one of two best choices in the £100-£400 range).

If budget is the main concern right now, the RB80 or FRX 80 will get you going. But don't rule this one out on price alone.

The Verdict

A proper skate with proportions that just work. The 90mm rocker frame gives you speed, stability and manoeuvrability in one package, and the skate has a natural feel that improves the more time you put in. Suitable for beginners through to experienced skaters, the price reflects quality, not exclusivity.
