Started in Germany and originally coined 'UpSide Down' skates, USD is now widely recognised as standing for the somewhat more conservative Universal Skate Design. USD skates have a larger range of boot-moulds than any other company. The Realm range of skates is the lowest priced, starting around the £100 mark. The Grycon mould still lives in the form of skates such as the USD VII skates. The Legacy mould is being phased out as many skaters felt it to be too heavy and cumbersome. The most popular USD moulds belong to the UFS Throne skates family and the Classic Throne skates family which continue to be current with new models and colourways being released every few months such as the USD Allstar skates and the USD Evo skates. USD's real secret weapon however, comes in the form of the USD Carbons. The first Carbon Fibre skate to be introduced to the aggressive skating market, providing rollers with a lightweight, rigid experience that they've never felt before. Innovated by USD (Deshi actually had the first Carbon Fibre skate but were owned by USD), the other skate companies will have to follow suit if they want to keep up with a product this high-end. The USD Carbon 2 skates were introduced in 2011 with an external cuff fitted, giving more ankle support to the skater after feedback from skaters who had ridden the first models. This was naturally follwed on with the USD Carbon 3, Carbon 4 skates etc.
